Blue Monday I Brew Monday
17th January 2022
Did you know today is both Blue Monday and Brew Monday? The latter created by The Samaritans to ‘make time for a cuppa and a catch up’. Here are our 3 top tips to replace Blue Monday with Brew Monday and start having great conversations over a cuppa!
Make contact with someone new
The last couple of years have helped us appreciate human contact and connection more than ever so why not make time in your day to contact someone at work you haven’t spoken to before? Some of us fear the often-formal nature of networking but by asking if someone can ‘make time for a cuppa’ feels so much easier. Networks, formal and informal, bring enormous benefits to organisations and bring about innovation, creativity and new opportunities. All over a cuppa!
Talk about anything but work
Now that zooms are commonplace and all too frequent, we are hearing from some of the teams we work with that those personal chats are disappearing between teams. The lack of face-to-face contact around the coffee machine or kitchen means it takes more effort to connect with someone on a personal level, on which trust and relationships are founded. Make time for a cuppa and start by asking an open question such as “tell me something about you I don’t already know” is a great place to start!
Listen to the answers
How good at listening are you really? Active listening takes effort and practice to hear, acknowledge and respond to what is being said, as well as what is not being said. Being present and picking up on signals is hard with day-to-day distractions and the remote nature of work. When someone really hears you it feels great and is the basis of a great conversation. Notice how good you are at really listening to the people you are talking to today.
