Change: What does it take to get it right?

All appears to change when we change - Henri Amiel

A recent global survey* of companies managing major organisational change by  professional services company Towers Watson found that the most successful companies follow a formal systematic process which involves 6 key activities: leading, measuring, communicating, involving, learning and sustaining.  They also have people dedicated to change management activities.

According to the study, it is leading activities which have the most impact in effecting lasting change. These include finding executive sponsorship for organisational change, developing a clear vision, creating an integrated communication and change management strategy and building strong employee motivation to make the change happen.

This research resonated very much with us because we have seen the benefits that can be gained from placing people at the heart of change initiatives.  Here are some examples of how we have worked in partnership with our clients to support their change programmes:

Facilitating meetings to help them to articulate and communicate their vision.

Delivering change readiness workshops for employees to explain how change is likely to impact on them and how to cope with it.  A recent example was for a privately owned technology business which was being taken over by a global player where employee retention was key to success.

Developing resources. We have recently launched a change management toolkit for change leaders responsible for implementing LEAN management practices.

Developing skills. We have delivered bespoke programmes to help Team Leaders/Managers to effectively manage themselves, individuals and teams  through the change process.
